Did You See the Halo Around the Moon Last Night?

(I got this picture from here. It was taken by Pete Haack.)
So did anyone see the moon last night? Or more specifically, the halo around the moon? I didn't take this picture, but this is exactly what it looked like at my house. Very cool. They say it's caused by ice crystals that form around the moon. And supposedly, it means bad weather is coming. And wouldn't you know that there is a nasty ice storm predicted to start tomorrow night. Boo!! The halo is still pretty cool though.

Brittanie's Thyme Review and Giveaway

Brittanie’s Thyme is a women-owned company dedicated to manufacturing natural and organic products that aid in producing a feeling of well-being, without the expense usually associated with high quality skin and personal care.

Brittanie's Thyme uses natural and herbal ingredients to create products that are not only good for you, but easy on the environment as well. All products have no fillers, artificial preservatives, artificial fragrances or dyes, and are made in small batches to ensure fresh product.
I received several products to review including Lavender Rosemary Hair Wine, Organic Hair Silk, and the Organic Sweet Dreams Pillow. I am always excited to try new hair care products, so I tried the Hair Wine and the Hair Silk right away.

The Hair Wine has a very strong scent, because it's made using cider vinegar. The bottle claims it removes shampoo and styling residue, helps restore pH balance to the scalp, and brings out natural highlights. I do feel like my hair looked healthier after using it. The only problem I have is that it seems like a lot of work. You have to pre-mix a tablespoon of the hair wine with 2 cups of warm water, so you have to mix it before you wash your hair and have it ready. I wish it came in pre-made mini bottles. It would save this mama some time! **Note: I just got an email from Brittanie's Thyme saying that they are coming out with a ready-mixed hair wine in a few months!!! Yay!!**

The Hair Silk is a great buy. You only use 2-3 drops at a time, but the bottle is an entire ounce, so it lasts a long time. It's supposed to smooth and protect hair while providing excellent nourishment. To be honest, this isn't for me. But only because my hair tends to get oily pretty quickly, so anything that "nourishes" or "moisturizes" only speeds up the process. But if you have dry hair, then I would definitely recommend the Hair Silk.

Finally, I will talk about the Sweet Dreams Pillow, which is supposed to aide in relaxation and restful sleep. Sadly, I can't vouch for this. Not because the pillow doesn't work, I just wouldn't know. Because I have a teething one year old who wakes me up 2-3 times a night because he is in pain. No restful sleep for anyone! I'll keep trying though! One of these days I might get some real sleep. The pillow smells delicious, by the way. It's filled with lavender!

UPrinting Sticker Giveaway

UPrinting is back with another great giveaway. Today, we are spotlighting personalized stickers and labels. Just like all their other great products, the stickers and labels are completely customizable in size (from 2 x 2.75" all the way up to 11x17") and design. You can choose from their many templates or create your one-of-a-kind design.

I will be receiving 250 stickers/labels for hosting this giveaway. I haven't decided yet what to use them for. I am considering making labels for Max's books and toys, or return address labels. These would also be great for business or blog promotion. I also like the idea of creating fun reward stickers for potty training or chore charts. Let me know any great ideas you can come up with!

Random Tuesday

randomtuesday

It's Tuesday, so that means it's time to get random:

Nothing pisses me off more than someone who pulls out in front of me (when there is no one for miles behind me) forcing me to slam on my brakes, and then proceeds to drive at least 10 miles under the G.D. speed limit.

I refuse to pass a car unless I absolutely cannot see any cars coming at me from the other direction.

Last night I had this crazy dream involving a tornado, and all day today I have felt so guilty that I wasn't protecting Max during the tornado.

After the car pulled out in front of me today (when there was no one for miles behind me) causing me to slam on my brakes and then proceeded to drive at least 10 miles under the G.D. speed limit- I made a mental note in my head to write about it in my Random Tuesday.

Max has been a total bear today. I'm assuming it's teething, but at this age, what don't we blame on teething? Maybe he just woke up on the wrong side of the crib.

It's incredibly hard to be an effective disclipiner when half of the time whatever he is doing wrong, cracks my sh*t up.

Whenever I watch Ellen and she gives everybody all this awesome free stuff, I get completely jealous. I think I'm jaded.

I think maybe Karma doesn't exist. People who do bad things get rewarded. Boo.

I really, really love blog comments so leave me some love!!

Woobie Wear Review and Giveaway

I have a boy. I love my son more than anything in the word. He is so fun and crazy, but there are certain times when I have a tiny yearn for a girl. And mostly, those times are in children's clothing stores. OOOHHH they make the CUTEST clothes for little girls. The bows! The lace! The skirts! Eek!! I do hope that one day I will have a daughter to dress up!
Woobie Wear is a cute and brilliant boutique of children's hair accessories created by a stay-at-home mom. Woobie Wear is a collection of flowers, hats, and headbands that can be worn together or separately. The genius part is that the flowers and bows are on clips, so you can mix and match with hats, headbands, or alone. And everything can be worn from newborn to tween.
Woobie Wear sent me this pink hat, pink headband, and white flower to review. The flower has the signature clip on the underside so it can be worn alone, or attached to the headband or hat. I love the versatility! As a mom, you really learn to appreciate anything that can be used and reused! The quality of everything is really amazing. Nothing seems cheaply made, so I know they are going to last. I did actually put the flower/headband on Max, but the hubs refused to let me take a picture to put on here. :D It really was darling though. Haha. I was going to give these to a friend with two young daughters, but I think I'm going to pack them into my "For-when-I-have-a-daughter" box. :)

Buy It:
You can contact Woobie Wear for selection and prices or see a list of retailers here.

Win It:
One lucky Mommy Loves Giveaways reader will win this White Hat and Purple Flower pictured here.

Kleasures by K Review and Giveaway

Kleasures by K is another Etsy shop I happened to stumble across. They specialize in handmade bath and body products that won't hurt your wallet. Personally, when money gets tight, my "pamper" products are the first to go. *insert sad, frowny face* Kleasures by K helps me keep my body products, and I'm not sacrificing quality. All products are handmade in small batches to ensure freshness and quality and free of Parabens, Phthalates and Artificial Dyes. You can find hand and body lotions, shower gel, lip balms, perfumes, and body scrubs.
Kleasures by K sent me a small selection of products to review including:

The Softening Body Polish is made with mineral salts, natural brown sugar, and apricot seeds. When I first used the scrub, I thought it seemed slightly dryer than other scrubs I have used. However, the end result was just as good, if not better than the other scrubs. My skin felt moisturized and soft. And the scent, ohmygosh, the Almond Milk and Honey smells delicious. It's the perfect light scent.

The Body Lotion is the perfect compliment to the Body Polish. The lotion is thicker than other lotions I use and I was surprised at how soft it left my skin. Using the two products together is so effective, even my husband noticed. And ladies, we all know how observant men really are, don't we? Again, the scent is just yummy. I wish you could actually feel my hands right now.

The Starry Night Oil Perfume, luckily, smells really good, because it had leaked a tiny bit during shipping. So when I opened the box, this sweet smell just took over. It's described as a floral and fruity scent, and that's accurate. It's kind of hard to explain, but it smells pretty. I love that it's long lasting too!

Buy It:
You can find each of these products at Kleasures by K on Etsy.

Win It:
TWO lucky Mommy Loves Giveaway readers will win gift pack of products (4oz Silkening Hand and Body Lotion, 4oz Moisturizing Shower Gel, and Oil Perfume) in your scent choice from Kleasures by K!

How to Enter:
Visit Kleasures by K and tell me what scent you would choose or a favorite product. This entry is mandatory and must be completed before any other entries will be counted.

Woah.. Blogger Mama Drama!!

I don't know how many people out there know about the scandalous accusations floating out there about the review blogger who is claiming to use products, then turning around and selling them as new. SHOCKING, I know. I was blown away.

Now I am not going to say anything about the accused, I just want to take this opportunity to stress that I do, USE every single item I am sent to review. If it is something that I can't or don't want to try, I will either let my husband or my mom, or someone use it and include that information in my pose, or I will turn down the business. I also will be honest; If I am not crazy about the product, I will let you know. If you have read very many of my posts, you know that.

This kind of situation gives us reviewers a horrible reputation. I hope you will all stick with me, and don't judge me based on the actions of others.

LOVE!!

Simplify My Life? Yes Please!

I'm a mom, of a 1 year old, so automatically my chaos factor is about a 7 out of 10. Add to that, I work a part time job, run a giveaway blog, my husband works overnights and is gone 3-4 days of the week, and I have to keep up with friends on social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Private Forums, and I would say that my life gets pretty hectic.
I spend a good amount of my time on my computer. I spend hours looking up new dinner recipes and coupons for my family; emailing companies about sponsoring giveaways; typing, posting, and promoting said giveaways; and keeping up with old and new friends online. My trusty laptop is about seven years old, with sticky keys and a missing left shift key. I have a one year old, remember? Seriously, have you ever tried to type without using the left shift?

Mom Bloggers Club asked me how an HP Mini 110 would simplify my life. Well, for starters, the extra shift key would be nice. And I bet the fan doesn't run constantly, sounding like a jet engine about to take off. That would be nice too. One of my favorite features is the small size. I spend most of my computer time sitting on the couch, with my laptop balanced on the arm, so I can keep an eye on my little one, but occasionally I like to type while I'm laying in bed. And then there are times, when I need my caffeine fix, and I drag my computer to the local coffee shop. Portability is KEY.

But most of all, I need to simplify my "business" life, so I can have more of the sweet moments with my family. My computer is so slow, that it takes me double or triple the amount of time that it should to get my work done. I don't want to miss out on the silly fun with my son or the precious moments with my husband.

The Giveaway:
Three blog readers (out of all Simplify My Life posts) will each win a HP Mini 110 just by commenting on a Simplify My Life post. So comment here, letting me know what you think!
Reader winners will be randomly drawn using Random.org and will be announced Friday, January 29, 2010.

Random Tuesday

randomtuesday

Okay so I have decided that I don't do enough "personal" posts, and I would like my readers to get to know me a little more, just in case you don't actually read my entire reviews (gasp! shame on you!) So if you want to play along, you can grab the button and link up at The Un Mom. So let's get random, shall we?

I was changing Max's diaper and he scratched his eye with his toe. I thought it was funny and weird, and I was a little jealous.

I am really sick of the whole Conan/Leno fiasco. Seriously, who cares?

I think I might spend too much time on the internet. It was down for a couple of days this weekend, and I almost had a heart attack. I was rechecking consistently every 20 minutes.

My little family has been staying at my parents' house while my husband tries to find a new job, and so we could save some money (really it's a loong story) and it's been almost 4 months now. I am starting to really crave my own space again. I like having things done MY way. I also miss living in an actual town with a Wal-Mart and a gas station in case I need a package of M&Ms.

I hate drama and it truely makes me physically ill when someone is mad at me. I need to learn to get over it. I shouldn't care what people think. Maybe that should be my New Year's Resolution.

I love comments that aren't giveaway entries. It makes me really, really happy and excited that someone is actually on here and is taking time to say something besides, "Hey, Give me Free Crap!"

I also love Free Crap.

Eh, that's all the random I have for today. If you decide to get random, leave a link in my comments section and I'll come check it out.

Eden Fantasys Review and Giveaway

**Disclaimer: This review and giveaway post is for adults only, so if you are under 18, you gotta skip this one. Sorry!***
Valentine's Day is just around the corner. I know some people think it's just a corporate holiday, invented to make some money. Well, I say, who cares?! Firstly, I love any reason to celebrate. And secondly, I think that sometimes it's necessary to be reminded to show the ones we love how much we care. Life gets crazy and busy and it's nice to know that for at least one day, I know that my husband and I are going to remember how much we love each other. And he's not really the romantic type, so I know there is at least one day that he might get me flowers or a card.

Sometimes it's hard to know what to get your significant other for the most romantic day of the year. But Eden Fantasys is here to help. Eden Fantasys is an online, adult toy store, but they have much, much more than that. You can find toys and accessories, books, videos, and lingerie. And if all of that makes you a little nervous, they have an entire section of Sensual Love products, that are a little less risque but sure to add a little romance to your night. If you need a little more help, Eden Fantasys features reviews for every product by real people and forums where you can ask questions or learn new information.

Eden Fantasys fixed up a little Valentine's package for me to review. Here's what I received:
Fetish Femme Black Babydoll: Very sexy chiffon babydoll with satin ribbon detail features adjustable front opening making it even more provocative. Satin choker matches the ribbon to complete this flirty ensemble.
Flirty Fling Wickedly Sensual Massage Oil: Enjoy the relaxing sensations of this wonderfully scented massage oil. Made with all natural ingredients, this premium oil comes in a myriad of fantastic scents to heighten your pleasure and arouse your senses, melting away all cares and inhibitions for a remarkable intimate experience.
Heart-On Bullet: This small bullet delivers intense love buzz through the pattern of cute little hearts. It makes a great gift for a sex toy beginner or as a small Valentine day treat.

My package arrived very discreetly. In fact, I didn't even know what was in the box until I opened it. I haven't really tried out any of the products, since I'm saving them as a surprise for my husband and I's anniversary weekend in a couple weeks. I did try on the babydoll lingerie. It fit, but it was a snug fit, so I guess I'm disappointed in the sizing chart. I thought it was really cute, though and definitely sexy. The one thing I didn't like was the front clasp/buckle seems a little cheaper than the rest of the outfit. The massage oil smells great and I can't wait to be on the receiving end of a nice massage! Finally, the bullet (which, can I say, the name seriously cracks me up. What can I say? I'm 12. LOL) seems to be very powerful for the small size, and especially for the price. I will say that it is louder than the packaging described. I think the hearts are pretty cute.

Cowgirl Chocolates Review and Giveaway

Hello, my name is Heather and I am a chocoholic. (Hello Heather.) Yes, admitting you have a problem is the first step. I love chocolate. When I was pregnant with Max, I never had any cravings until the last couple of months. And then I had to have a Starbucks Signature Hot Chocolate and a package of Plain M&Ms Every. Single. Day. It's a wonder I didn't gain 100 pounds! I'm not particularly picky with my chocolate (not a fan of white chocolate, though) and I always like to try new kinds. And then I was introduced to Cowgirl Chocolates...
Cowgirl Chocolates are "sweet and spicy gourmet chocolates for adventurous chocolate lovers." Well, you have my attention now! Cowgirl Chocolates brought chocolate to a whole new level, by mixing high quality chocolates with spices, like Cayenne pepper. You can find their famous mild and spicy truffles, candy bars, caramels, brittles, cocoa, and more.
Cowgirl Chocolates sent me a package of their mild and spicy truffles. I think the packaging is just adorable. These (and all their products) are perfectly presented for gift giving. (Valentine's Day is coming up, remember? And these are definitely a macho-er [is that a word?] version of the traditional V-day candy.) Anyway, here is a list of truffle flavors, in my order of preference:
  • Milk Chocolate (mild)
  • Ivory Orange (mild)
  • Double Dark Chocolate (mild)
  • Cappuccino (spicy)
  • Double Dark Chocolate (spicy)
  • Hazelnut Milk Chocolate (spicy)
  • Raspberry Dark Chocolate (spicy)
  • Raspberry Lemon (milk)
  • Habanero Caramel (spicy)

Now, I was a little scared, at first, that the truffles would be too spicy for me. But, they were actually very, very good! I could taste a hint of "something" that made the chocolate more interesting than a basic chocolate, but I didn't need a glass of water on hand. Well, except for the Habanero Caramel. THAT was spicy! And I only ate 1/4 of the piece! I am so happy I discovered Cowgirl Chocolates! Definitely a must-try if you love chocolate!

Affordable Scarves Review and Giveaway

It's that time of year. When temperatures dip to horrifyingly low numbers (at least they did here!!) Time to break out the heavy coats, hats, and scarves. I LOVE me some matching hats and scarves sets. What a fun way to dress up your winter coat. You know how some women have too many shoes? Well that's me with scarves (and hats and purses). So imagine my delight, when I learned of Affordable Scarves.

Affordable Scarves is pretty simple to understand. They have lots and lots of scarves.... that you can afford. :o) I love the variety; you can, literally, find a scarf in any style, color, or fabric. You can browse scarves by color, material, season, shape, size, trend, or specials. All scarves are under $20, and you get free shipping on orders over $30, which is basically 2 scarves. Totally affordable, right?
I received this Hannah Super Scarf in red to review. My first thought, when I opened the bag, was I can't believe how soft this scarf is. Oh, it is soo soft. It's also really long, and extra wide, so it's really warm. It's at least 3-4 times as wide as any other scarf I own, so it can double as a wrap. Very nice. As a mom, I love anything that works double-duty and saves me money. I want one of these in every color!

Check out the History of Scarves: A Timeline or check out their YouTube Channel for different ways to wear some of the different scarves!
